Madrid, Spain – June 2019
H2020 5GROWTH project started on June 1st 2019 and the kickoff meeting takes place this week in Madrid, Spain. SCANlab’s leader, Prof. Nancy Alonistioti will represent the NKUA team, together with Prof. Ioannis Stavrakakis, as members of the 5GROWTH consortium.
The 5GROWTH Project will validate advanced 5G trials across vertical industries in an operational environment in 4 different pilots
The 5GROWTH project, part of the European H2020 5G Public Private Partnership (5G-PPP) Infrastructure, will empower verticals industries such as Industry 4.0, Transportation, and Energy with AI-driven automated 5G end-to-end solutions that will allow these industries to achieve simultaneously their respective key performance targets.
The consortium comprises 21 partners from 7 European countries, including leading international vendors (NEC, Ericsson, Nokia, InterDigital), operators (Altice, Telecom Italia, Telefonica), vertical industries (COMAU, EFACEC, INNOVALIA), SMEs (Nextworks, Mirantis, Telcaria), and research institutes and universities (University Carlos III of Madrid, CTTC, Instituto de Telecomunicações, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Politecnico di Torino, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna). The 30-month project, which started on 1st June 2019, received a grant of 14.1 M€ from the European Commission.
The 5GROWTH vision is to empower verticals industries such as Industry 4.0, Transportation, and Energy with an AI-driven automated and shareable 5G end-to-end solution that will allow these industries to achieve simultaneously their respective key performance targets. 5GROWTH will automate the process for supporting diverse industry verticals through:
- a common interface in charge of interfacing verticals with the 5G end-to-end platforms, receiving their service requests and building the respective network slices on top,
- closed-loop automation and SLA control for vertical services lifecycle management,
- AI-driven end-to-end network solutions to jointly optimize resources provided at all the network and application segments (access, transport, core , cloud, edge and fog), across multiple technologies and domains.
The main objective of 5GROWTH is the technical and business validation of 5G technologies from the vertical perspective, following a field-trial-based approach on vertical sites (TRL 6-7). Multiple use cases of vertical industries will be field trialed on four vertical-owned sites in close collaboration with the vendors and the operators in the project. 5GROWTH will leverage on the results of 5G-PPP Phase 2 projects where slicing, virtualization and multi-domain solutions for the creation and provisioning of vertical services are being developed and validated.
